Erection and Maintenance of Gravestones and Niches
  • Before any gravestone or niche is erected in the cemetery, an application must be completed and approved by the Town Engineer ( Mr Waldo Julies). Such an application must be made 24 hours before such erection.
  • Gravestones shall be erected in accordance with the regulations set by the Municipality. Adult grave- 2,5m x1,5m and child grave -1,5 x 1,2 m
  • Gravestones may only be erected after the burial site has been identified by the authorised person at the Cemetery.
  • On completion of the erection of the gravestone, an inspection shall be carried out by the authorised person to establish if standards were met. Any deviations must be corrected immediately.
  • In case of damage to a gravestone, the family will be notified of such damage, and repairs must be made within 6 months to the satisfaction of the Town Engineer, or the Municipality will remove the damaged gravestone.
  • Council will not be responsible for any claims that may arise from the removal of damaged gravestones.
  • Gravestones erected illegally will be removed by the Municipality.
  • Times for the erection of gravestones and niches will only be in the week from Monday to Friday: 08.00 -4.30 pm
  • Cremations: Relatives may bury the ashes of love ones in a burial plot of the family, provided such excavations are not deeper than 500mm.
Standing Operating Procedures of Muslim Funeral in Langebaan:
  • Muslims are to be buried the same day of death between sunrise and sunset.
  • The leader (Imam) of the Muslim Community should contact a registered Undertaker between 08.00 and 4.30 pm (weekdays), who will contact the Municipality with details of the burial and also submit the relevant documentation, such as the burial order and proof of payment.
