Plan an Event in Langebaan – Nothing showcases the WESKUS culture and character more than an event that draws crowds, but before the crowds arrive, lots of planning, time, and requirements are needed for such an event to take place.

Event permits are required to conduct any event of 20 people or more in any public place, on public property or even on private property. 

Permits are required if an event requires municipal services, involves the erection or utilisation of temporary structures, generates air pollution, has implications for public safety or amplified sound that will be audible to the surrounding area. 

Any event that provides public access will require an event permit. Events are categorised (small = under 2000, medium =under 10 000 or large> 10 000) by attendees and could require up to 20 working days for a response to an Event permit Application from the Municipality. Fees are applicable.

Special requirements/ certificates or approvals are needed before the application will be considered. They are:

• Insurance – indemnity cover for third-party liability claims
• Contingency plans – for safety and security services, emergency services and municipal services
• Public notice – letter drop to affect residents and businesses, notice in the local newspaper and social media platforms
• Temporary structures – like seating stands, stages, tents, and scaffolds- require an engineering certificate
• Ammunition, explosives, flammable liquids or fire being used – permission from SAPS
• Fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters- permission from the SA Civil Aviation Authority
• Remotely piloted aircraft systems – RPAS operate with a certificate
• Motorised watercraft – skipper license by the SA Maritime Safety Authority
• Children under 15 years – employed to perform advertising, artistic or cultural activities – need to comply with Section 10 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act
• Animals – perform, exhibited, trained or used for safeguarding – License of the person in charge of animals
• Outdoor advertising and signage – comply with Municipal Outdoor Advertising By-Law. https://sbm.gov.za
• Catering/food vendors – valid license and certificate from the Municipality 
• Sale of liquor – liquor license, consent of the owner of premises
• National/Provincial Road – permission from Western Cape Traffic Police
• National Park or reserve – permission from SA National Parks
• Generators, lighting, cabling – permission from the Electricity Department at the Municipality
• Cleaning – Waste Management Department at Municipality

It depends on the type of event, as other requirements can also be applicable; enough time should be allocated for permissions from all relevant authorities, as required per the Application Form.
